Darrians Confirmed as fully MSA eligible.
Following a conversation between Tim Duffee
and MSA Technical & Risk Control Manager, John Symes, the
long term future of Darrian Cars eligibility for UK Rallies has
now been confirmed.
The meeting took place on the MSA stand at the Autosports Show
where John Symes explained that he had no objections to Darrian
cars competing on Rallies.
John Symes further explained that the proposed new
K37. regulations, intended to eliminate one off specials, did make
provision for 'Low Volume Production Cars' and that the
Darrian was fully acceptable under this definition.

DARRIAN
T9/T90 News Update
Originally conceived
as an inline mid-engined Tarmac rally car of compact, lightweight yet rugged
design to optimise power/weight ratio, handling and braking the Darrian has now
developed into a successful sporting car in a wide range of motor sport events.
Following our initial success
in 1990, when the works T90/Millington
of Geoff Kitney/Alan McCann won the Ears/Motoring News title and Kevin
Evans/William Jones won the Zenith/Welsh Championship, customer Darrians have
competed successfully in Tarmac and Forest rallies, Rally Cross, Sprints, Hillclimbs and Circuit races.
John Dalton/Alun
Davies lifted the 1993 Demon Tweeks/Motoring News title for Darrian and
Millington once again, while 1994 saw Kevin/William showing the 4 wheel drive
machinery the way to win the Fast Tyres Clubmans Tarmac Championship.
The high point of 1995
was Ken Thomson taking the Scottish Racing Championship in his road going
T90/Vauxhall and in 1996 S.I.T.D. – Swansea Institute Team Darrian - ran two
Millington Powered GT3 spec. cars in the Privilege Insurance BRDC National GT
Championship winning the overall championship with Ken Thomson & Simon
Duerden. Closer to home the 1999 WRDA
Sports Saloon Championship was won by Graham Cole in his T90. Meanwhile
Customer Darrians have continued to excel in the Welsh Tarmac Championship with
a high number of Championships going to Darrians.
S.I.T.D. continued
with a limited GT campaign in the GT2 class until the 1999 British Grand Prix
support race after which Darrian Cars, with valuable assistance from Swansea
Institute Motorsport Engineering Students, were busy with some new suspension
developments for the Rally car. John Dalton’s GTR, now with double wishbone
front suspension produced some encouraging results in testing.
2001/2 saw John Dalton
competing in the ‘Get Connected’ Tarmac Rally Championship after which the
works car was taken over by Damian Cole of Get Connected. and a new GTR with 6
speed sequential NMT was constructed for John Dalton..
The new works GTR
proved to be totally dominant on Epynt based Rallies and in order to seek a new
challenge JD made an almost exclusive switch to the Irish lanes leading to
further suspension development and some outstanding results including wins on
the Donegal and Cork 20 Nationals.
Meanwhile customer
Darrians have continued to enjoy wide ranging success on Tarmac Rallies with
Chris Davies and Nigel Gibbard excelling in the National and Clubmans
Championships and James Hoseason and Ashley Field, amongst a host of other
Darrian Crews, have produced some very competitive results on individual events
throughout the UK..
On the Circuit Racing
front Ian Hall has been almost invincible in his V8 GTR with a large collection
of pole positions, outright wins and lap records culminating in the K&N
Filters BARC Sports Saloon Championship.
Whether for road, Race
or Rally the Darrian is available in various specifications to suit and can be
supplied either as a body/chassis assembly complete with the specific Darrian
components or as a rolling chassis into which further items can be fitted by
ourselves or supplied separately.
As well as the T90 GTR
rally car, which we feel has made a big step up in performance, current
projects also include a technical link up and joint project with a company in
